Derrick McKey Basketball Courts
Beyond his achievements, McKey has been dedicated to giving back to his hometown. For over two decades, he has hosted the Derrick McKey Basketball Camp, a free clinic for boys and girls in Meridian, emphasizing not only basketball skills but also life values and personal development.
In recognition of his contributions, the city of Meridian honored McKey on October 21, 2022, by dedicating the basketball courts at Highland Park as "The Derrick McKey Basketball Courts." During the ceremony, McKey expressed his gratitude, stating, "This celebration is more about the community and all those who come before me. My name may be up here, but I’m representing so many."
McKey's legacy continues to inspire, reflecting both his athletic excellence and unwavering dedication to uplifting youth in his community.
